Our lab’s recent work on telemedicine is attracting significant attention and has been covered by major outlets, including U.S. News & World Report, HealthDay and Penn Medicine News. Led by PhD candidate Bingyu Zhang and Dr. Yong Chen, our lab’s latest research in JAMA Network Open reveals video visits can deliver care episodes at about one fifth the cost of office visits, with fewer follow ups. In a companion study they also led in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, the team shows that telemedicine has settled as a durable component of routine care delivery beyond the pandemic. Together, these findings validate telehealth as a cost-effective, practical solution and provide timely evidence as reimbursement and regulatory policies evolve.
